What’s the Difference Between Memorial Day and Veterans Day?

So what’s the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day? According to the Veterans Administration:

Usually, people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

First, military personnel who died in the service of their country are honored on Memorial Day. Specifically, those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. Next, ALL who served in the military are honored on Veterans Day. In addition, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service. In short, their contributions to our national security are acknowledged and appreciated.

Memorial Day is always celebrated on the last Monday of May. However, many schools and businesses are closed because it is recognized as a national holiday. Conversely, Veterans Day is observed annually on November 11. After Woodrow Wilson gave an address on November 11, 1919, Veterans Day became widely celebrated. Unlike Memorial Day, activities usually proceed as normal.

Veteran's Day vs Memorial Day

First, Memorial Day and Veterans Day are both patriotic and symbolic. Next, these holidays recognize something bigger than us. Furthermore, the holidays show our gratitude for those who fought for freedom. Beyond, all who died serving our country are remembered and honored. In summary, we are grateful. Also, we are humbled.

Finally, thank you for your service and sacrifice.
