Tax Planning with Your CPA & Financial Advisor - A Team Approach
Your financial advisor and CPA should work in tandem to make sure you have the most tax efficient plan. Most people want to pay their “fair share” of taxes each year, but nothing more. I’ve yet to meet anyone who is willing to pay beyond their fair share in taxes. Having a financial planner and CPA on your team can ensure that you only pay your fair share.
Financial Planning & Taxes
Financial planning incorporates many services, including: investment planning, insurance, a tax strategy, and ways to minimizing your taxes not only today but in the future. Our clients seek a comprehensive approach when it comes to their money.
When it comes to working with a CPA, most individuals fail to take full advantage of their Certified Public Account beyond having them complete their 1040 tax return each April 15th. A CPA will be able to complete your Federal Income Tax Return, but I suspect you’ll need planning beyond just crunching a few numbers. It’s important to have your state and federal incomes tax returns completed correctly. But remember, proper tax planning happens in the prior year (prior to 12/31), generally not in the current year your tax returns are due.
CPA Tax Consulting Services
I find that many CPAs truly desire to offer tax consulting services to their clients, and you should take advantage of those services. For many of our clients at St. Croix Advisors, we have joint meetings with our clients and their CPAs. We prefer a team approach and so do our clients.
When it comes to the IRS, we can’t avoid taxes, but we can have a plan to minimize our taxes as the tax codes have outlined. We have a playbook, it’s called the tax code.
